3rd Annual Brooklyn Pie Bake-Off Benefit

Sunday, November 13th, from 1 to 4pm @ SPACECRAFT

Nov 2

Welcome to the 2nd Annual Brooklyn Pie Bake-Off Benefit that will take place on Sunday, November 14th, from 1:00 to 4:00pm at SPACECRAFT in Brooklyn.

The Brooklyn Pie Bake-Off Benefit is a yearly Brooklyn based pie bake-off that raises money for local underfunded non-profits.

There are only two rules for the Annual Pie Bake-Off Benefit.  Rule One is that all pie crust must be homemade.  Rule Two is that at least one ingredient must be local(our “local” is defined as being grown or produced within a 200 mile radius of Brooklyn).

To wash down each slice we will have milk from Ronnybrook and beer from Brooklyn Brewery.

Entry to the event is $10 and includes free drinks and three pie slice tickets.  Additional pie slice tickets can be had for $1 each.  Bakers receive FREE admission.  Bakers are required to bring two(2) pies to ensure that there is enough to go around.  If you would like to compete, please RSVP by Friday, November 12th, with your name, pie, and local ingredient to:

Our judges are heavily involved within the New York food world and include:

Kitty Greenwald, cook and author, is Director of  Eatsy, Etsy’s burgeoning food program which focuses on healthy, sustainable food practices in the office and beyond (Eatsy profiles food artisans and provides original recipes on the Etsy Blog).  Kitty has contributed to countless publications, including the Wall Street Journal, and has authored her own cookbook, Life’s Too Short to Chop Onions(Reader’s Digest).

Cathy Erway, author and cook, has written and blogged about her experiences in the kitchen for most notably her own cookbook and blog, The Art of Eating In: How I learned to Stop Spending and Love the Stove and Not Eating Out in New York, as well as for The Huffington Post and MarkBittman.com.

Allison Kave, last years Pie Bake-Off Benefit over-all winner, is the proprietor of 1st Prize Pies, a much talked about pie venture based out of Brooklyn, NY.  Her pies, including the award winning Bourbon Ginger Pecan Pie, appear at the Hester Street Fair, at Ronnie Sues Cocolates, at God Buns Market, and are on the menu at Fatty ‘Cue in WIlliamsburg, Brooklyn.

Judging will be based upon taste, texture, and appearance, and the catagories are: Best Overall.  Best Sweet.  Best Savory. Crowd Favorite.  Winners receive a Bags for the People bag filled with prizes: a copy of Life’s Too Short to Chop Onions(Reader’s Digest) and a BurdaStyle sewing pack …  Best Overall gets Bags for the People bag with all that, plus a pie feature on Eatsy and a $50 gift certificate to Brooklyn Kitchen.

This year we are giving proceeds to OurGoods.  OurGoods runs on mutual respect.  OurGoods exists so that creative people can help each other produce independent projects. More work gets done in networks of shared respect and shared resources than in competitive isolation. By honoring agreements and working hard, members of OurGoods will build lasting ties in a community of enormous potential.

The event is Sunday, November 14th, from 1 to 4pm. The event will take place at SPACECRAFT(355 Bedford Ave) in Williamsburg, Brooklyn.
